(PCM) Anne Hathaway proves you don’t have to eat egg whites and grilled chicken to gain lean muscle. The veggie-loving actress stuck to her meat-free ways while preparing for her role as Catwoman in The Dark Knight Rises, and the proof is in the skin-tight leather suit!
Hathaway amped up her eating plan with the help of Jackie Keller, board certified health coach, nutritionist and founder of Nutrifit, who worked with Hathaway for almost a year to get her in tip-top form.
So, how did Anne transform her body into Catwoman?
“We made sure she had adequate protein to get lean,” Keller tells Fitness. “For the Catwoman body, she needed to build more muscle and make sure she didn’t waste away under rigorous training. Her diet consisted of anti-inflammatory foods and components of the Mediterranean diet.”
That means lots of protein at every meal. Keller says Ann ate three meals and three snacks a day, with a cup of protein like legumes or pan-fried tofu at every meal, adding up to about 1500-1800 calories per day.
Despite the strict, high-protein diet, Anne was still able to enjoy her favorite dessert: chocolate. In fact, she ate it almost everyday!
“She likes dessert, so she ate dark chocolate, which is high in antioxidants. A small square a day is actually good for your heart,” says Keller. “Make sure it’s 70% cacao to get the most benefits.”
You don’t have to be shooting a blockbuster film to get the same, or at least similar, results! Keller’s tips for women who want to lose weight and get in shape fast:
“Avoid processed and refined foods, like white bread. Add ingredients with monounsaturated fats to your diet, like olive oil, salmon, sardines and nuts. They’re high in omega-3 fatty acids. Eat more dark leafy greens and bright red and orange vegetables, which are rich in vitamin C, an antioxidant. Drinking green tea will also give you an antioxidant boost. It’s not about eating less; it’s about eating the right foods. You won’t reach your goals if you’re not eating well.”
