(PCM) The answer might surprise you!
Just as cutting carbohydrates from your diet can make you irritable and grumpy, eating too many trans fatty foods can have a negative effect on your mood, too (no matter how delicious they may look). That’s right: not only does trans fat raise your LDL cholesterol (the “bad cholesterol”), increasing your risk of developing heart disease, it also makes you mean!
According to RealAge, trans fats – found in fast-food, packaged foods, and many baked goods – ramp up anger and aggressiveness, and not just in adults. Sending kids off to school with a breakfast high in trans fats can fuel bully behavior and cause poorer school performance and grades.
Watch out for the following foods where trans fat often lurk:
Crackers, cookies, cakes, frozen pies and other baked goods
Snack foods (such as microwave popcorn)
Frozen pizza
Fast food
Vegetable shortenings and stick margarines
Coffee creamer
Refrigerated dough products (such as biscuits and cinnamon rolls)
Ready-to-use frostings
Instead, make sure you and your children eat a healthy, well balanced breakfast that will fuel the whole family for a productive and successful day! Include whole grains, lean proteins, and fruits and vegetables at every meal, and avoid fast food breakfasts at all costs!
