I LOVE FOOD: Paisita!

This week’s I LOVE FOOD feature focuses on un plato tipico de Colombia: la Paisita! The first time I had a Paisita I was proud to have finished all of the items on the dish… until I realized what I had eaten was just a smaller version of the original. What? There’s more? A Paisita is actually a smaller portion of the Bandeja Paisa.

What is this magically delicious South American dish that I keep referencing, you ask? One order comes with beans, a…Read full post

This week’s I Love Fried Food piece is pickle-icious. The first time I saw a fried pickle was on the Jersey Shore. I don’t want to give Snooki too much credit, but she was the first person to bring a fried pickle to my attention.

Sure I have had them before… as side spears, sliced up on a hamburger, or right out of the jar. But, covered in a crunchy, greasy coating? Love it!

The first time she talked about a fried pickle…Read full post

MANGIA! This week’s I Love Food post comes right out of my own kitchen, well, my mother’s kitchen that is. She is a world-renowned cook in MY world and I am so proud of the concoctions she creates.

My mother can cook absolutely anything you throw at her. Pulled pork? No problem. Crab cakes? On the way. Anything Italian? Nailed it.

She actually even made my family of five a chart in the home that says “Weekly Dinner Specials” and we get to write…Read full post

This week’s I Love Food title is a bit misleading. It isn’t exactly a carrot-FLAVORED treat, but a carrot-LOOKING treat.

I know I highlighted an Easter dessert last week, but I had to take this opportunity to showcase another neat trick I learned about. This one doesn’t even need to be for a holiday; it could be a fun conversation piece at dinner any day you please.

This was actually my friend’s idea, she started off by making Pillsbury croissants. She made a cone…Read full post

This week’s I Love Food post is once again Pinterest-inspired. Usually the pictures I use come from things I eat out at a restaurant, but this is something I made personally.

All you have to do is create the cupcake itself, and ice it as you see fit. You then get white and pink melting chocolate, I get them from a crafts store near me.

You first melt the white chocolate and pour oval, flat shapes like the ones you see above onto wax…Read full post

This week’s I Love Food post focuses on something I saw on Pinterest. I don’t know if you have stumbled upon Pinterest yet, but let me tell you, more so warn you that it is ADDICTING.

Pinterest is basically a news feed of pictures. These pictures consist of things you could bake, interior decorating ideas, wedding tips, funny sayings, inspiring quotes, fashion advice, and the list goes on. It basically has shown me how to dress and what to bake.

Last week’s post was all about red meat, this week’s post is all about MILK! Three types of milk to be exact. This Calcium-rich dish is called Tres Leches, which literally means it is made up of three types of milk: condensed, evaporated, and heavy cream.

I had my first run in with this dessert at Rumba Cubana in North Bergen, NJ. It was, as you could have guessed, extremely moist. With the first bite it melted or “evaporated” in my mouth with…Read full post

This week’s I Love Food post is meaty! Now I know people say red meat isn’t good for you, and I respect that. But, I do think it has nutrients that you can’t find in leafy vegetables.

Then again, I am not a doctor – I just love all kinds of food. No matter if it offers special vitamins or not, for meat lovers out there I am sure we could at least agree that it is tasty.

This week’s I Love Food blog highlights pork. Now, I used to think I hated this type of meat. Whenever my mom would say we made “pork tenderloin” or “pork chops” for dinner – I would immediately text my geographically closest friend to make plans at the local White Castle.

But, I realized I do enjoy pork only in different forms. Although hot dogs are cholesterol sticks they are still enjoyable on a hot summer’s day. Pulled pork is one of my…Read full post

This week’s I Love Food post is a childhood favorite of mine. My family and I always took a lengthy drive since we were young to indulge in these heavily-cheesed burgers.

Iron Horse, which is located in New Jersey’s Bergen County, is well-known by many in the town. Why? I think the picture above can answer that. They give you a healthy portion of cheese in every stuffed burger.

Some places have frozen burgers that are already stuffed. You can tell that the…Read full post
