10 Economical and Natural Ways to Clean with Baking Soda

With all the new cleaning products on the market, it’s easy to forget about the most basic one of them all – baking soda. Baking soda is one of the most versatile and effective power tools to have in the house. It isn’t just for keeping the fridge fresh!

Here are 10 of the best ways to get the most out of baking soda!

1. Eat a greasy, fried meal and you’re all out of antacids? Create your own by mixing ½ teaspoon of baking soda with ½ cup of water. Drink it down fast – it’s not the best tasting remedy, but it does work.

2. Put a little baking soda on a damp grill brush, and scrub the grate early on in the season. The grill will stay a lot cleaner all summer long!

3. You don’t need to take up space with expensive carpet cleaners. Sprinkle baking soda on rugs, carpets and bath mats, wait 15-20 minutes and vacuum up for fresh, clean carpets.

4. Skip harsh bleach in the wash and add a cup of baking soda to your next load of laundry for cleaner, brighter clothes.

5. Sprinkle baking soda in the bottom of a hamper – especially if it’s one you keep your dirty gym clothes in. It will really help mask the sweaty odors!

6. Skip expensive produce washes – just sprinkle baking soda on a damp sponge, scrub and rinse.

7. Burnt pans or old stuck-on grease? Sprinkle pan with baking soda, add enough hot water to cover the bottom, and let soak for an hour. The grease and residue will come right off.

8. Make a thin paste with water or vinegar to clean counter tops, appliances, and the bathroom(sink, tub, countertops), and wipe clean with a damp cloth.

9. Pour in 1 cup baking soda followed by 1 cup hot vinegar to unclog the kitchen drain.

10. Out of toothpaste, or just looking for a more natural alternative? Mix baking soda with water until you get a paste, and brush those pearly whites!
