Going through my journey to health has already become interesting. One of the hardest things to maintain is attitude. I should say a good attitude because there is no doubt in my mind that I have an attitude. I read this quote from the 11th Doctor (Doctor Who, leave a question in the comments box if Doctor Who needs to b explained) “I am and I always will be, the optimist, the hoper of far-flung hopes, the dreamer of impossible dreams.” I was also watching Disney’s new live adaptation of Cinderella and Ella’s mother tells her that the only things she need to do to make it through life is to “have courage and be kind”
Those are words that I must strive to live up to for the rest of my life. Optimism and kindness and courage can take you places that can be unbelievable. It’s not easy to become though, especially if you are dealing with ailments and depression. The reality is that people, even in suffering, can keep these kinds of attitudes. I think they come through trust and faith.
We have to also get away from people who do not speak positive things into our lives. I am not talking about those that offer us constructive criticism, they are very much needed. I am talking about those people who like to make jokes about other people, those people who gossip and those who are intentionally mean spirited. The gossips are the worst. If you listen to them and give them any rope, you had best believe that they will be talking to someone about you.
The next step is to find someone who will tell you that they believe in you. I have been blessed enough with a friend who, one time, when I was struggling told me that he was, “my biggest fan.” Those words were healing to me. This person has also made time for me and encouraged me in other ways. Because he has done that I have become different. I have found myself opening up to others and trusting them, as well being able to be an encouragement to others. When we can remove away from people who have a negative effect on us, and toward people who encourage us, and are kind toward us, we begin to see that we are not the horrible people we may think we are, but good people that have something to offer. I am not there yet. But it is starting and it feels really good.
Now the update, I have exercised as I committed to. I have been doing well changing my diet. The sugar has gone lower and I am eating better food. One of the hard things for me, at the moment, is that I have only a microwave and electric kettle, a small blender and a grilled cheese maker to cook with. I live in a basement apartment, and I have use of the kitchen upstairs but I don’t like going up there, so I eat a lot of frozen dinners. Also I have freezer full of frozen meals at this time.

I do have a problem with throwing away food. If I could sell it I would, but throwing away food seems wrong to me. I once started a diet that demanded that you purge your kitchen of all the food that they considered bad for you. It was a waste, both of money and food. So I will eat what I have left and add better food as I go on. America has been truly blessed by abundance, but we must not be wasteful because we have so much.
Little changes, good people around me and a better attitude, is a good place to build from.
