With the series premiere of ABC Family’s Jane By Design getting closer and closer we definitely had our fashion savvy on high alert for our fifth JBD Style Challenge!
While it may not have been the challenge Gray had initially intended for us to work with, Jane was quick on her super cute heels and ready to come with a challenge – inspired by her own lifestyle, a lifestyle where you are constantly juggling everything from when to be where to what to wear when you’re there!
Essentially we had to take a plain white button-up and show how we could make two separate looks for day and night. It’s all about pairing and accessorizing, so we stuck with the same color scheme for both looks to show just how much of a difference a few key pieces can bring to a look.
Our day look obviously had to be something you could wear to the office. But we appreciate the style that comes with simplicity, so we stuck with the shirt as our basis and added just a few ways to accentuate figure and style. To give more shape and volume to the otherwise stiff shirt, we cinched the waist with a black belt, with its buckle just left of center for a bit of a twist on the same old. And, of course, scarves are all the rage, so we covered up the boring collar with a fun, lightweight gray scarf.
To emphasize the volume, we consciously kept the shirt untucked and kept the chic gray pencil skirt resting beneath it. After pairing it with a nice pair of open-toed black booties and a brown Coach bag easily able to lug around any files, emergency-kits, etc. that may be necessary in an on-the-go office job, the only thing you’d need to do with this outfit during the day is unbutton the sleeves, roll them up and get ready for another fast-paced day in the office.

With the white shirt at our base, we put on a sharp, black jacket complete with rocking zippers, lining and edge. It’s definitely a youthful twist on dressing up a look. To go along with this idea of dressing things up for a night look, we added – and totally think Jane would be willing to – a pair of hot silver shorts. Without the jacket, this is totally dressy and classy for any formal party, but with the addition of the jacket, not only did we dress things up, but we kept with the fun and funkiness of a young girl willing to take risks with fashion.
Pairing the look with the open-toed black booties, because they are so so so comfortable to spend the whole day in, a black clutch and a stunning but simple Tahitian Black Pearl necklace, any girl would be ready to make a great first impression with her sense of style and confidence at any after-work party.
