(PCM) History has been made in the fashion industry and we say it’s about time. “American Horror Story” actress/model Jamie Brewer became the first ever model with Down Syndrome to walk the famous catwalk during New York Fashion Week.
Brewer appeared at NYFW and walked the catwalk modeling clothing designed by Carrie Hammer. Brewer, an advocate for people with intellectual disabilities, was part of Hammer’s “Role Models not Runaway Models” campaign.
The campaign aims to feature some incredibly influential women walking the catwalk including CEO’s, activists, executives and actresses and anyone who is at the top of their game. The women all wore clothing designed by Hammer that were tailored specifically for them and their particular body types.
When speaking to USA Today, Brewer commented “Young girls and even young women … [see me] and say ‘hey, if she can do it so can I.”
