Anti-Bullying Campaign Combines Texting and Fashion to Raise Awareness

Sadly, bullying has become a problem of epidemic proportions for kids everywhere and chances are, you’ve been bullied or have been a bully at some time in your life.  Well, it’s time to do something about it…one t-shirt at a time!

You don’t have to be a celebrity to get involved in anti-bullying campaigns, you just have to put on a shirt! Shout b cause, LLC, just launched a new anti-bullying campaign featuring “no bully txt” shirts. Each shirt displays a recognizable text abbreviation, like “bff” or “btw”, redefined to battle bullies in schools across the country and around the world.

“Too often in our culture, bullies are glorified in music, TV and film,” says LLC Chief Movement Officer Joe Harris. “We believe bullying should be demonized, not depicted to be cool. Our goal is to make anti-bullying the new cool. We want to take back the power from the bullies in the classrooms, the hallways, the cafeterias, the playground, the malls, and the Internet.”

When Joe Harris and Chief Enlightenment Officer Jenifer Jurden discovered that the average teenager texts over 100 times a day, they knew they had to create something centered around not only helping others, but what kids love to do – texting! Harris explains:

“The average kid texts over 100 times a day – its the world that they live in – so lets speak in that language as well as we can. Not only would it be fun, but there would be a lot of stopping power when you see a kid wearing that at school or at the mall, or just about anywhere.”

“Bff” has been redefined to be “bullies fizzle fast,” and “btw” to now mean “bullying that’s weak,” so that teens everywhere can communicate a strong, anti-bullying message through familiar texting acronyms! Each shirt design also features a unique, spineless “Bully Blob™” graphic reflecting the new definition.

“Through cool humor and honesty, we’re giving kids the power to stand up to bullies before they strike. We want to establish a school environment that fosters anti-bullying before bullying has an opportunity to take root,” says Harris. “With our t-shirts serving as walking billboards, we’re raising awareness for the anti-bullying movement around the globe. We want to make a positive difference in the world one t-shirt at a time.  No more cruel, just cool!”

For schools, governments, and corporations inspired to distribute the shirts to local students, they can have custom colored shirts and their logo imprinted on the sleeve.

“There’s always been a level of bullying and everybody’s been bullied at some stage of their life. But the volume’s been turned up. Now there’s cyber bullying which opens it up to the universe. Every week you hear a story about a kid who just couldn’t take it anymore and ends their life… If we do this right, we can save lives.”

Harris and Jurden’s anti-bullying tips:

“FDFGB – Friends don’t let friends get bullied,” advises Jurden. “One of the things we really believe in is to make sure that you have each other’s back. It’s speaking up, its standing up, and its making sure that you’re aware. We can’t necessarily change the behavior hands on, but we can increase awareness.”

So stand up, speak up, make sure you’re talking about it! Let’s make anti-bullying the new cool and get a rapid fire movement going across the country, one t-shirt at a time!
