Biggest Loser Contestant Bullied and Eliminated: ‘Whatever doesn’t break you makes you stronger’

It was hard to see ‘Biggest Loser’ eliminate Adrian Dortch this week, after he finally made it on the Ranch just two weeks prior. Adrian and his sister were originally sent home and not allowed to even step foot in the Biggest Loser house when they lost the very first challenge of the season. However, they were told that if they lost a combined 50 pounds by week 5, they would be welcomed back onto the show. After an amazing home transformation, the siblings were welcomed back on the Ranch, but not with open arms. It was like watching the new kid get picked on by the popular, mean girls.

It wasn’t the experience Adrian expected, but it’s been a learning experience and one that he doesn’t regret. “Whatever doesn’t break you makes you stronger,” said Adrian, “and I truly have become stronger because of the experience.”

Isn’t this show suppose to be about working with your team to lose weight, build confidence and gain your life back? This season just doesn’t feel right, and the way they treated the new member of their team wasn’t fair. It felt more like ‘The Bachelor’ than ‘The Biggest Loser.’

“The Biggest Loser is a show that you’re supposed to encourage one another,” Adrian told us following his ouster. “You’re supposed to promote the wellbeing of each other, and that’s what I did regardless of my teammates being mad or upset with me. I never said anything bad about them or anything bogus or belittled anybody.”

Adrian said it was heartbreaking when he and his sister didn’t make it on the ranch during the premiere, but they were determined to lose the required weight at home to get back there and finish what they started, even if it didn’t last long the second time around either. He explained his at home weight loss:

“When we returned home, we went directly into a gym. We learned some great workout techniques from Dr. H. He actually worked out with us the day before we left, so we learned on what caliber we should feel. He pretty much said, ‘If you’re working out and you can talk, you’re not working out hard enough.’

Upon going at home, the food that we ate was either fish or grains and three or four cups of lettuce with lemon, so we were on a very strict diet. No carbs unless it was coming from broccoli or something like that…But when we first came home, my parents took care of her kids and my wife pretty much took care of herself and the baby, so they let us work out 14 hours a day. And me and my sister literally – if we weren’t in our car we were in the gym. I mean, we were in the gym every day.”

Despite being eliminated twice, Adrian continues to lose weight on his own and have a positive attitude about the experience. He says:

“One of the most valuable things that I learned is everything that you need to lose weight is already inside of you. You just need to get off your backside and become dedicated and just lose that weight.

I mean it’s easier said than done. I know. I’m doing it every day. But in the same breath, like it’s your life. I mean, it’s your life. And nobody’s going to – how can I say – nobody’s going to give you extra years if you don’t give them to yourself, and that’s what this weight loss journey is about is being here for not only yourself but the people that love you.

This show is about getting your life back and adding on years. For me, I’m going to win because I’m going to lose enough weight where I’m going to be longer than this guy wanting to walk my daughter down the aisle. To see my other child being born.

I mean, one of the craziest things – I’m just coming out of the gym today and somebody asked me, “What is the one thing that you love that you can do right now?” I’m a simple man. I’m able to Head, Shoulders, Knees, and Toes with my daughter now. I’m a winner. I can do that with my daughter. That is the stuff that I went on the show to do. To be able to play with my daughter. To be able to not be out of wind when I’m running. And to just – you know, just get this weight off of me. And that’s what it was about for me, and that’s what it’s still about to this day.”

Adrian has lost a total of 140 pounds since he started his weight loss journey.
