(PCM) Is your ab routine failing to give you the results you’re looking for? Crunches alone won’t give you a mid section like Mario Lopez, so if that’s the extent of your routine, it may be time to switch things up. Endless amounts of crunches and sit-ups will certainly help tone your mid-section, but if you want to really see results, there are a few things you should be incorporating into your ab workouts: cardio, back exercises, and a healthy diet.
1. In order to actually see those abs, you have to lose the fat that lays on top of the muscle. The best way to do that is with cardio, combined with a few strength training workouts a week. Cardio burns calories, while strength training builds muscle (and burns calories, too!); plus, the more muscle you have, the more calories you’ll burn at rest.
2. Back exercises are also an important part of an ab routine because as your back muscles develop, they help draw in your abdomen. A strong back will also help support your posture, and help avoid any lower back pain from ab exercises.
3. Food directly contributes to how your body functions, looks, and feels. The saying “abs are made in the kitchen” is not a myth! See foods that fight belly fat here.
