(PCM) Many parents are angered and demanding answers after they learned that approximately one dozen middle and high school students, with some as young as 11-years old, were taken on school-sponsored field trip to an adult novelty store in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
The field-tip to the “Smitten Kitten” was put together by the director of the Gaia Democratic School, Starri Hedges, as part of a lesson in sexual education. Parents claim that they were not notified about the trip ahead of time and many feel it is going to be impossible to erase the images that were forced upon their children by entering that type of establishment.
In a statement, Hedges defends the field-trip calling it “beautiful” because the children were able to “talk to these sex educators without any fear, or shame”.
Sources claim that the students were blocked from viewing anything in the store that was deemed “pornographic”, however various sex toys and other adult novelties were on full display. After news broke about the controversial field-trip, Smitten Kitten is now being investigated to find out if they broke any state laws about displaying items deemed explicit to a group of minors.
Hedges says that it will probably be the last time that the school takes that type of field trip, however she is saddened because “the kids had so much fun”.
