Fall Into Fashion Trends 2011

Let’s face it, you’ll “ohh” and “ahh” at the pages found in Vogue or pictures from the latest runway shows, but chances are you’re not going to wear any of those fluffy, puffy, or just questionable attempts at fashion. The most recent NYC Fashion Week was for the spring/summer collection anyway – none of us plan our attire that ahead of time! Regardless, the change of seasons is always exciting because it gives us a reason to hit the mall or online for some “new fall clothes” that we all desperately need. There’s no need to feel overwhelmed by the thousands of boots you’ll spot upon before swiping the credit card – hence why we’ve created this list. Here is our list for popular trends for fall 2011:

Color Color Color
The colors this season are funky and usually not the first shades people reach for. Mustard yellow, jade, rusty orange and red look great on a top or even as jeans (bright colored pants are also great).

Prints
Bring them on (so we can put them on)- we’re talking plaid, angled stripes, polka dots, animal prints, even crazy graphics make the cut. Any piece of clothing with a different print makes an outfit more dramatic. Tops and sweaters are especially becoming more creative with different prints.

Textures

Chunky knit clothing like oversized sweaters or ponchos are perfect for fall. They’ll keep you warm and cozy while turning heads. It’s not necessarily a grungy look, but like a 90’s comfy throwback. Add some skinny jeans/tights and loud shoes and you’ll completely change the look.

Fur is something the runway and us can agree on. We all know throwing on a fur vest is an outfit game-changer. I’m not saying go splurge on a chinchilla coat…we like PETA too. Rather, go for the cheap/fake stuff, no one will tell the difference/care.
Lace and sheer fabric should be in all closets. A lacy top and sheer pieces of clothing makes a dress look 10xs sexier. It’s revealing but classy at the same time. If you haven’t yet, invest in a lace bandeau or even a baby doll dress; we guarantee you’ll use these pieces time and time again.

Scarves
Doesn’t matter if it’s a massive knit scarf that’ll keep your entire torso warm, or a silky one that’ll keep your hair back, just wear them. All the different colors and patterns will make the outfit ultimately pop. Wearing a small scarf in your hair also counts as a different hairstyle, with minimal effort. Wrap around scarves are practical as well; no need to be freezing in order to look good.

Ankle boots
Europe’s already got this one covered and the trend is slowly making its’ way over the big pond. These leather or suede booties are adorable and can be worn with practically anything. DSW has booties as far as the eye can see.

Big Jewelry and Pendants
In this case – the shinier, the bolder, the better. Large necklaces, earnings and watches instantly make a statement. There are also adorable pendants to be found online. A personal, unique collection of hand-crafted necklaces bring out a vintage style that is all your own. Check out eff.y.bee.com for amazing jewels that give back to a good cause.
