Recent research shows that certain foods and nutrients may help ease osteoarthritis symptoms. More research is needed, but there’s no harm in adding these delicious, healthy foods to your diet anyway. Here are five to add to your diet:
Strawberries. The little red berries are packed with more vitamin C than an orange, which may slow the progression of osteoarthritis.
Olive Oil. Polyphenols, like those found in olive oil, may help reduce inflammation in the body.
Salmon. High in vitamin D and mega 3 fatty acids, salmon is a healthy source of protein that may help ease osteoarthritis pain and disability.
Green Tea. The benefits of green tea never seem to end! Along with its many wonderful health benefits, it’s also full of antioxidants called catechins, which help fight inflammation and slow cartilage damage in people with arthritis.
Leafy Greens. Eat your veggies! Plant-based foods like leafy greens are rich in vitamin K, a nutrient that helps osteoarthritis prevention. The more greens in your diet, the better the health of your joints.
While you’re increasing these foods in your diet, you also might want to watch out for white breads and corn oil. Use omega-3-rich olive oil instead of corn oil, and choose wheat over refined grains which may be proinflammatory!
