Having trouble falling asleep at night? Stop turning your bedroom into an office/entertainment room/second kitchen! The bedroom should be for sleeping and being intimate with your partner – that’s it. That means you should NOT be watching TV in bed, eating in bed, Facebook stalking, and definitely not finishing up last minute work details – or any type of mentally stimulating activity for that matter.
The stress of work-related tasks is enough to make it hard to fall asleep, but if you’re sitting in front of a laptop screen the effect is twice as bad. It’s too much stimulation before bed, and makes it much harder for your brain to shut off when you want it to. If you can’t fall asleep without running through the following days to-do list or deadlines, do it downstairs before heading up for bed. Or keep a notepad on your nightstand for jotting down what’s on your mind, so you won’t have to worry about remembering in the morning.
