I LOVE FOOD: The Reuben!

(PCM) This week’s I LOVE FOOD post is Reuben-rific! I think a Reuben sandwich is typically made with corned beef, but this one is made with pastrami. Probably why this place called this dish the “Pastrami Reuben.” I am new to this whole corned beef or pastrami thing, but they both taste good to me.

This delectable lunch option is from Elysian Cafe in Hoboken, NJ. This is the cutest cafe. I have driven past it on the main strip in this town (Washington Street) and it has always caught my eye.

The outdoor seating area looks like something out of the movie Secret Garden. The fact that it is a French bistro probably contributes to this elegant appeal. Even the street itself, the houses next to it are covered in beautiful earthy vines even adding more to this enchanting location.

Getting back to the actual meal, this sandwich has sliced pastrami, Russian dressing (always the right choice,) sauerkraut (always the right choice,) and is served on toasted rye. I love the juxtaposition of the salty meat with the bitter slaw, the sweet dressing with the cheese. I don’t know what type of cheese they put on it, but when it comes to cheese does it really matter what kind it is? They are all so good. Reuben knew how to make a good sandwich, that is for sure!
