Listen up ladies: New research out of the UK showed that women who stay seated for long periods throughout the day are at higher risk of developing type 2 diabetes than men who do the same. While it’s still important for both men and women to try and move more during the day, this makes it even more of a necessity for women.
Keeping up with your usual workout, taking the stairs instead of the elevator, parking father away in the parking lots, and sneaking in some quick bursts of cardio at your lunch break or even bathroom break can make you less of a sedentary person, and therefore less of a health risk! Jumping jacks, wall pushups, squats, lunges, and even jogging in place will get your heart rate up and the blood flowing! Do this for five to ten minutes every chance you get. And during your lunch break, take 20 minutes or more to go for a brisk walk, or hit the company gym if you have one.
Little bouts of exercise really add up, decreasing your risk of type 2 diabetes, obesity, and many other health problems. Plus, your boss will thank you; exercise – even just 10 minutes – will help keep you energized and focused during the day.
