Jennie Garth (90210, What I Like About You, Beverly Hills) has been named ambassador for Water4, a 501(c)3 public charity based out of Oklahoma City that not only provides clean water to rural communities but acts as a catalyst for change by training, equipping, and supporting nationals to be the solution to their own community’s need. One in eight people across the globe lack access to clean water and 4,100 children die each day from problems related to unclean drinking water, making the issue one of the world’s leading humanitarian crises.
“Sometimes we take for granted that every day we will have clean water to drink, but for many people in different parts of the world, that is not the case,” said Garth. “I am so thrilled to be working with such a great organization like Water4, whose vision goes far beyond just bringing communities wells and clean water. Water4 empowers them with the skills and equipment to become self-sustaining rather than reliant on outside aid.”
Among her upcoming projects with the nonprofit, this holiday season Ms. Garth will help promote their “Give the Gift of Life” campaign, which allows people to donate money in the name of a loved one, who will receive an official Water4 waterbottle and a certificate showing to which world region their donation has contributed. Clean water can be a reality for tens of thousands of children and families across the globe throughout the holidays and beyond. Those interested in giving can visit www.water4.org or www.givetowater4.org.
“We are excited and honored to have Jennie Garth join the Water4 family,” said Dick Greenly, founder and president of Water4. “She is an accomplished actress, and more importantly, a woman and a mother who understands that giving a gift of clean water this holiday season is one of the best ways to make sure women and girls in the developing world are able to access better educational and work opportunities.”
Since its inception in 2008, Water4 has helped meet the needs of over 100,000 people for reasonable access to clean drinking water in countries like Haiti, Sierra Leone, Uganda, and Rwanda. Water4’s 2014 goal is to get water to a million people.
