(PCM) Jessica Simpson is finally opening up about her struggle to lose the weight she gained while pregnant with her first daughter Maxwell Drew.
“I let myself indulge in everything I wanted because it was the first time I was ever pregnant, and I wanted to enjoy it,” she tells USA Today. “I wanted to be happy and eat what I wanted.”
But, she admits she had no idea how difficult it would be to take back off, and now the new Weight Watchers spokeswoman is having trouble getting back on track.
“I didn’t realize [the weight] didn’t all come off with the baby. My body is not bouncing back like a supermodel,” she said.
Simpson will begin appearing in Weight Watcher ads in the next few weeks, giving insight into why she joined the program (other than the reported $3 million contract) and her experience so far. She hasn’t revealed her starting weight, but according to USA Today, the 5-foot-4 star weighed 170 pounds when she posed pregnant for Elle magazine. Simpson says Weight Watchers hasn’t given her any target numbers, and just want her to be healthy, which according to the program is between 117 and 146 pounds for her height.
Simpson says she’s managed to lose weight every week since starting the program, but won’t reveal how much weight she’s lost. She’s eating less of everything, but doesn’t believe in completely depriving yourself – a mantra Weight Watchers lives by. “I’m a woman who wants her chocolate. I allot myself a fun-size (bag) M&Ms. I eat one of those, and my craving is satisfied. I don’t need the whole bag of M&Ms,” she said.
The 32-year-old is on the PointsPlus program, eating about 28 points per day. She’s also making sure to get about 60 minutes of exercise every day, mostly by walking – “My boobs are way too big to run at this point. I’m just walking,” she says – in addition to 4 or 5 sessions with celebrity trainer Harley Pasternak.
“For me, I have had to come to a place where I am comfortable with myself. I’m a mom now, and get to be a role model for this beautiful little girl.”
