(PCM) Disney icons – Minnie Mouse, Daisy, even Goofy – have gone couture, and in the fashion industry that can only mean one thing: they’ve gone on a diet.
That’s right, all of your favorite childhood characters have been given some very serious makeovers, all in the name of fashion. Their short, round frames have been stretched to supermodel height (turn them to the side, and they’d probably disappear), and stripped of their sweet polka-dot dresses and bows in exchange for Lanvin gowns and sky-high stilettos.
According to Today, the Disney crew is fronting the new Barney’s 2012 holiday campaign “Electric Holiday”, which pays homage to the beloved characters – along with Disneyland’s famous Electrical Parade – with light installations at the New York flagship store and a short film portraying the characters as models. But despite trying to portray the characters as accurately as possible, the creative team just couldn’t envision their round physiques in couture brands.
Barney’s creative director Dennis Freedman explained to WWD:
“When we got to the moment when all Disney characters walk on the runway, there was a discussion. The standard Minnie Mouse will not look so good in a Lanvin dress. There was a real moment of silence, because these characters don’t change. I said, ‘If we’re going to make this work, we have to have a 5-foot-11 Minnie,’ and they agreed. When you see Goofy, Minnie and Mickey, they are runway models.”
The campaign release date is Nov. 14, so avoid the New York flagship store if you don’t want your children scarred for life!
