Miss Mexico’s Cynthia De La Vega has been stripped of her title, and it’s not over drugs, sexting, or any of the other usual vices – it’s for gaining weight! The 19-year-old appeared on Good Morning America today and claimed officials took away her title for gaining a measly 6 pounds. She was scheduled to represent her country in November’s Miss World Pageant.
“I was very, very excited because I thought this would be a great experience,” Cynthia said. When asked about how she felt when she found out she said, “I was very sad and very deceived. I cried and cried and cried.”
Organizers of the pageant claimed that she had a “lack of dedication and discipline.” De La Vega says she attended every class and was prepared, insisting instead that it’s because of the weight she gained while pushing herself hard to prepare for the beauty pageant. She claims she was never warned, however, of any physical requirements or “weight standards.”
“Organizers of the Nuestra Belleza Mexico contest demanded that I lose a few [pounds], but they never provided a nutritionist or any other assistance to ensure the weight loss,” she told reporters. “A proper nutrition plan should be specific for each day of the week and should also be supervised to make the necessary adjustments.”
This is so stupid and completely unfair. These girls are placed under a lot of stress, which can lead to weight gain, among other things. It’s not like she was turning to drugs and alcohol! Give the girl a break. She probably would have lost the weight in time for the pageant anyway, and even if she didn’t, who cares. She’s not representing a country of stick thin women, she’s representing real people!
