(PCM) Nur Suryani Mohamed Taibi is a shooter from Malaysia who will compete at the Royal Artillery Barracks Saturday morning. Oh, and she’s also 8 months pregnant!
“Since I started shooting in 1997, I’ve been dreaming of going to the Olympics,” she said. In fact, she thinks it might even give her a bit of an advantage! “Now I have balance at the front and the back,” she adds. “So the stability is there.”
“I just want to perform my best at the Games. If gold comes, thanks to God and my baby. Who knows? Miracles can happen,” she said.
Suryani is not the first pregnant woman to compete in the Olympics, but she is likely the most heavily pregnant athlete to ever partake in the big games!
“Some people say that I’m crazy. Some people say I’m too selfish. But I just ignore what others say. I just concentrate on what I want to do and what I dream of.”
The 30-year-old is ranked 47th in the world, and already has a few medals to be proud of, winning gold at the Commonwealth Games in 2010, and a bronze at the Asian Games. But, making it onto the podium at the London games will be particularly special because she will get to share it with her daughter.
“When the baby is born, I will tell her you are very lucky,” she said. “You were not born yet, but you competed with me in the Olympic games.”
