(PCM) The parents of a 9-year old Texas student who was recently suspended from school after telling a classmate that his ring had magical powers that could make the classmate disappear are understandably outraged.
The school principal of Kermit Elementary School in Kermit, Texas claimed that the boys comments to the other student were viewed as a “terroristic threat” and he was kicked out of class.
The student, Aiden Steward, had just gone to see the film “The Hobbit: The Battle Of Five Armies” and had brought a ring to school that he playfully labeled as his “one ring” which is a direct reference to the ring that was forged in Middle Earth and the focus in the J.R.R. Tolkien novels on which the films are based.
While playing make believe with his classmate, Steward placed the ring on the other students forehead and said he could make him disappear like the character of Bilbo Baggins in the film. That is absurd reason that led to his suspension.
This not the first time that Steward had been suspended, he was sent home from school for two other equally ridiculous reasons. He once referred to another student as black and he brought in his favorite book from home The Big Book Of Knowledge and the teacher became concerned because there was a chapter in the children’s encyclopedia about pregnancy. Somethings tells us it is time for Steward’s parents to start looking for a new school!
When commenting about the “Lord Of The Rings” suspension incident, Steward’s father had the following to say “I assure you my son lacks the magical powers necessary to threaten his friend’s existence. If he did, I’m sure he’d bring him right back.”
We think so too!
