It’s the latest in extreme weight loss trends: Brides-to-be who are looking to lose that last 5, 10 or 20 pounds are turning to a controversial new crash diet that involves sticking a feeing tube into their noses for up to 10 days.
It’s called the K-E diet, and it promises brides and anyone looking for a quick fix that it will help them lose up to 20 pounds in 10 days. According to reports, a feeding tube is inserted into their nose for 10 straight days which runs down to the stomach. They’re fed a constant slow drop of protein and fat mixed with water, with absolutely no carbohydrates. The total caloric intake? 800 calories a day, which is kept in a food solution that is carried around with dieters.
“It is a hunger-free, effective way of dieting,” Dr Oliver Di Pietro said. “Within a few hours and your hunger and appetite go away completely, so patients are actually not hungry at all for the whole 10 days. That’s what is so amazing about this diet.”
“The main side effects are bad breath; there is some constipation because there is no fiber in the food,” he said.
According to GMA, although the K-E diet is new to the United States, it has been around for years in Europe. Dr. Di Pietro charges $1,500 for the 10-day plan, and says the before-and-after pictures sell themselves.
A small price to pay for rapid weight loss? Or is this a crash diet gone too far?
