(PCM) The ladies that belong to the University of Alabama’s sorority chapter Alpha Phi made the decision to take down their incredibly controversial four minute long recruitment video after receiving a ton of backlash online. Many felt that the video not only objectified women, but also was incredibly lacking in overall diversity.
The video is literally sickening and yet with all the controversy surrounding it the University of Alabama added 2,261 women to its’ sorority system over the weekend. It must be noted however that only 241 of those women were a minority. Alpha Phi is the fourth-oldest sorority in the country, with alumni that include state legislators, civic leaders, and the first female treasurer of the United States.
Deborah Lane, the associate Vice President for University Relation for the University of Alabama released the following statement in regards to the Alpha Phi video which says “This video is not reflective of UA’s expectations for student organizations to be responsible digital citizens. It is important for student organizations to remember what is posted on social media makes a difference, today and tomorrow, on how they are viewed and perceived”
