(PCM) Middlebury College in Vermont is raising some eyebrows after they revealed the news that the selling of energy drinks has now been banned on campus. Goodbye late night study sessions! While it has been documented by health experts that consuming too many energy drinks can lead to heart problems and other health issues, that is not the reason why the college created the ban.
Middlebury College feels that energy drinks lead to “problematic behavior”, for example “high-risk sexual activity” which they outlined on fliers that were posted around the campus. Many of the students are outraged by the ban and feel that the college should have more important issue to focus on and seriously do not see the connect between energy drinks and heightened sexual activity.
According to the campus news the flyer “mentions scientific literature revealing a connection between energy drinks and unsafe behavior in young people, including ‘increased alcohol consumption, increased likelihood to drive while intoxicated, increased probability of use of other intoxicating substance and increased participation in high-risk sexual activity.” Those students who support the ban do so from more health related reasons rather than any type of sexual activity, as they hope it will urge fellow students to make healthier drink choices.
We are sure that the convenience stores near this college are absolutely rejoicing at this news … stock up on Red Bull and Monster now guys, college students will be flocking your way soon!!
