Summer may not be here just yet, but hair frizz certainly is! There’s nothing worse than spending an hour blowing out your hair and straightening it, just to see it turn into a frizzy mess the minute you step outdoors. Fight frizz this summer with these simple, effective tips:
1. Get the right cut. If you’re overdue for a haircut, now is the time to head to the salon. Whether your hair is dry and damaged from processing and over-stylying it, or just has a few split ends, getting it cleaned up will make your hair stronger and healthier. Make sure you talk to your hair stylist about the right cut for your hair type, too, because the right cut can make all the difference in summer frizz.
2. Prevent dry, brittle and damaged hair (which leads to frizz) by making sure it’s moisturized. Frizz happens when dry, damaged hair sucks up moisture in the air, causing the shaft to swell. So, always use conditioner when washing your hair, and apply a deep conditioning treatment at least once or twice a week.
3. Only lather up a few times a week. The natural oils in your scalp are good frizz fighters – the more you wash, the less there are! If you have naturally oily hair, you may have to wash it every day or try a dry shampoo in between washings.
4. Avoid rubbing the towel on your hair when you get out of the shower, which can make frizz much worse. Instead, gently press it with the towel, and let it air dry slightly without touching it. Then, blow dry your hair with an ion dryer (they help reduce frizz), making sure the nozzle is alwa ys pointed down. Use a ceramic flat iron to smooth out any frizzed areas.
5. Apply a silicone smoothing serum to finish your look and lock in moisture. Use a small amount of product, and make sure to apply under your and at the ends first, and then lightly on top. Too much product at the roots will make your hair look greasy and dirty. Look for an anti-frizz serum or smoothing cream in the hair care aisle.
