Airline to Cut Fuel Costs With Skinnier Flight Attendants

Ryanair, the budget European airline, is struggling to find ways to deal with the rising fuel costs. So they are going to unique measures to make their planes lighter. That means printing its in-flight magazines on thinner paper, reduce the weight of seats and carts, and cut the amount of ice taken on board.

Oh yeah, and they want their flight attendants to lose weight!

A spokesperson for the airline said:

“We encourage staff to watch their weight – with the motivation of appearing in the annual Ryanair calendar.”

Well as long as they can be in a hot airline calendar…

Ryanair isn’t even the first airline to force weight loss on their attendants. Thai Airways did the same thing last year, providing required BMI and waist line measurements and told employees they had six months to lose the weight. And in August 2010, Turkish Airlines gave 28 flight attendants six months to lose weight or face termination.

Absurd!
