Boomers Still Got It! The Baby Boomer Hot List

By Diana J. Ewing

Who says baby boomers, many of whom are already grandparents, have lost that certain something? When it comes to the big screen, TV, best-selling books, music, business, politics and nearly every other area of public life, boomers still have what it takes and the world is paying attention.

So, for your consideration and comment, here’s a list of still-prominent boomers compiled by yours truly. To name only a few and in no particular order, this is my very own…

Famous or not, now that the original youth culture has morphed into grandparents, the line between young and old doesn’t seem so clearly drawn. When you play Hungry Hungry Hippos with young Kylie and Quan or challenge Mia to a Toy Story or Spider-Man video game, you don’t feel all that different from when you were their age.

That’s because the me deep inside you remains a kid at heart no matter how many candles you blew out on that last birthday cake. Even so, you’d gladly climb aboard Mr. Peabody’s WABAC machine and set the dial to, say, thirty-five, which seems a lot younger now than it did when you were there.

As you interact with your grandchildren, you get that time-machine lift because their youthful enthusiasm has a way of rekindling your own. You click with these kids on so many levels, from your mutual fondness for Harry Potter, Snickers bars and Charlotte’s Web to being in complete accord regarding how irritating their parents can sometimes be.

But no matter how many smartphones you acquire, how often you exercise or how much you jazz up your vocabulary with words such as homey, props and wassup, your grandkids will never mistake you for young. You’ll have to keep doing that for yourself.
