(PCM) According to scientists from the California Pacific Medical Center in San Francisco, yes!
Pierre Desprez and Sean McAllister claim to have found a compound from marijuana – Cannabidiol,(CBD) a non-toxic, non-psychoactive chemical compound found in the cannabis plant – that could stop metastasis in many different kinds of aggressive cancer. They’ve already undergone laboratory and animal testing, and are waiting for the OK to go ahead with clinical trials on humans.
“It took us about 20 years of research to figure this out, but we are very excited,” Desprez tells The Huffington Post. “We want to get started with trials as soon as possible.”
The two scientists came to their discovery together, though it wasn’t always a team effort. Desprez, a molecular biologist, had spent decades the gene ID-1, which causes cancer to spread, while McAllister was busy studying the effects of Cannabidiol. The two finally got together, and now, they’re looking at a major scientific discovery that could change the fatality of the disease forever. “We likely would not have found this on our own,” Desprez admits. “That’s why collaboration is so essential to scientific discovery.”
Desprez adds:
“What we found was that his Cannabidiol could essentially ‘turn off’ the ID-1. We started by researching breast cancer, but now we’ve found that Cannabidiol works with many kinds of aggressive cancers–brain, prostate–any kind in which these high levels of ID-1 are present.”
