(PCM) Honestly, this was our original thought when the news first broke about the allegedly un-retouched photo of model Cindy Crawford that began making the rounds online.
According to the photographer, John Russo, who was the one who was working with Cindy Crawford on the December 2013 Marie Claire shoot, the image in question is a fake. In his statement released to ABC News, Russo says “It has been falsely claimed that this photograph represents an un-retouched image of Cindy Crawford. This is not true. It is a fraudulent altered version of my photograph. I am grateful that this fact has been brought to the public’s attention and that corrections are being run in the media.”
Russo goes on to say that the photo in question was either stolen or unlawfully accessed, altered and then distributed to the media creating the firestorm. After the image was posted many women felt both empowered and inspired by viewing Crawford’s allegedly natural body, as they felt it showed a more real side to the model.
Thus far there has still been no comment from either Crawford or Marie Claire about the un-retouched photo or photographer Russo’s claim that the image is a fake. The only comment that only slightly touched on the issue was made in an Instagram post from Crawford’s husband Randy Gerber, which can be seen below:
