Disease-Promoting Popcorn Bags?

Popcorn is a healthy way to add fiber to your diet, and recent research suggests it may also contain more antioxidants than fruit. But all that means nothing if the bag it’s popped in contains disease-promiting chemicals.

A study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association in January 2012 found that nonstick chemicals in popcorn bags significantly damage the immune system, which makes your body more susceptible to a whole host of other health problems. These chemicals falls under the perfluorinated chemicals class, and often found in the nonstick coating of many pots, pans, and baking sheets.

Nonstick chemicals are also linked to high cholesterol, sperm damage and infertility, and even ADHD. This is a serious threat to your health, especially if you’re popping a bag of popcorn a few nights a week. Make it the old fashioned way, in a pot on the stovetop, instead. It’s the healthiest, most natural way to enjoy popcorn, and you can make it anyway you want!
