(PCM) As we delve further and further into the day and age where it seems the either computers or robots can seemingly handle most of the day to day jobs, people often begin to wonder by the time the year 2020 hits, how many jobs will be left for actual human beings?
Recent studies have shown that there is one aspect and job skill that computers and robots will never be able to take away and that is…empathy! By the time the year 2020 rolls around many employers especially in the fields of health care, counseling, teaching, and finance will be searching for the missing human element and individuals that can show empathy for their clientele which is something that is nearly impossible to achieve with the use of computers and robots.
Robots and computers will never be able to handle customer complaints or comfort a crying child the same way that a human can and these skills are without a doubt going to be in high demand. While a lot of these technological advances are amazing and will certainly be an amazing asset to our society, the desire for human interaction and empathy will always top the list of desirable job skills. Just think about how many times you’ve been irate when calling a store or customer service help line to ask a simple question only to be transferred all over the place by a computer generated phone system, and if you are anything like me, you end up becoming incredibly frustrated and just hang up! That is only one small example of the missing human interaction aspect of the computer take-over in the realm of employment.
Even if you don’t feel that your empathy skills will measure up to what would be expected in the job force, there has been new scientific research that claims individuals can now cultivate their empathetic nature. Actions such spending time with those less fortunate, reading fiction, and meditation are just a few ways for people to grow and develop their full empathetic potential.
