This week’s I LOVE FOOD post is a new take on an old post. I have already discussed my passion for a good Chicken Parm. How do you have a food blog and NOT talk about Chicken Parm?
But this week, I realized how much I have neglected the hero. I know that many places in the world do not call a sandwich a “hero.” I think the universal term for a big sandwich is a “sub.” Other areas such as the Philadelphia section calls it a “hoagie.” But, in the tri-state arena we call it a hero.
Heroes are just that… the super sandwich! Saving us from hunger one bite at a time. When I was younger I ordered a Chicken Parm sandwich for every meal. My parents gave up on asking me what I was having for lunch or dinner.
The combination of the chicken parm plus the crunchy warm bread is just mind-blowing. The best ones have real white meat chicken. I can’t stand when I get a sandwich that has chewy, re-heated chicken. It doesn’t taste fresh. It is always a risk to order chicken parm.
The thing that really makes it or breaks it is the sauce. As I have previously mentioned, I am NOT an oregano fan. Dousing the tomatoes in a funky-tasting spice is not a good time. Once again, all my friends love it so I know people do find it pleasant. But, come dine with me and I will show you that a good pomodoro sauce can go a long way.
