I LOVE FOOD: Fried Pickles

This week’s I Love Fried Food piece is pickle-icious. The first time I saw a fried pickle was on the Jersey Shore. I don’t want to give Snooki too much credit, but she was the first person to bring a fried pickle to my attention.

Sure I have had them before… as side spears, sliced up on a hamburger, or right out of the jar. But, covered in a crunchy, greasy coating? Love it!

The first time she talked about a fried pickle was on her trip to the south. This was when she took the scenic route down to Florida with partner-in-crime Jenni JWoww Farley for the second season of MTV’s hit show. She said it brought pickles to a “whole other level.”

Since Seaside Heights, NJ has become the home of the Jersey Shore crew, the boardwalk now sells them too. Yet, I have never had them. I have tried fried Oreos before, but who hasn’t?

Finally getting to the point, I promise! I went to Hooters recently, and got their fried pickles. I did not like any part of my meal besides this. The smaller, sliced pickles were definitely a good idea by Mr. Hooter as it provides the perfect amount of pickle flavor without overpowering the fried part.

The seasoning they use almost reminds me of the coating around a Bloomin’ Onion at Outback Steakhouse, where is is heavily seasoned with a kick of flavor.

The dipping sauce is phenomenal. This is what I think put me into fired pickle Heaven. The sauce is creamy and spicy. My mouth is watering as I speak.

Next time you head to the Jersey Shore, somewhere south, or Hooters… grab yourself some salty, crunchy deliciousness!
