Jillian Michaels brought out the holiday scrooge in people when she posted this Facebook downer on her wall today:
The holiday season is upon us and if you are going to toss back a few cocktails here are a few things you should know. Alcohol is very high in calories. Around 80 cals just for a shot and 90 for a 4oz glass of wine. It dramatically inhibits willpower leading you to eat things you normally wouldn’t. It decreases your ability to metabolize fat by 73%. This is because your liver then converts most of the alcohol into acetate.The acetate is then released into your bloodstream and takes precedence over the metabolism of protein, carbohydrate, and fat. So – if you drink don’t use sugary mixers. Drink clear alcohol IN MODERATION like a vodka soda / tequila on the rocks or a glass of wine.
Bummer. No one wants to hear this kind of information, especially around the holidays. Doesn’t she know people need a little liquor to get through the family get-togethers!? She’s just trying to help; alcohol is, afterall, empty calories. Toss back a couple chocolate martinis and you consume the sugar equvalent to 2 or 3 candy bars!
Then again, she DID say “in moderation”, so it’s completely acceptable to have a glass of wine or whip up a batch of the guilt-free eggnog below!
