(PCM) Pop superstar Katy Perry is doing her part to help the educators of America; the singer has teamed up with Staples to raise money for underfunded classrooms across the country.
Staples, who joined up with Perry in their pursuit of providing better funding for our country’s teachers, has committed to donating $1 million to DonorsChoose.org to enable teachers to buy the supplies they need to make the school year a great one for every student.
Kate Perry and the office supply chain are encouraging everyone to join in by donating to DonorsChoose.org to raise as much money as possible in addition to the $1 million already being donated.
Staples has a statement on it’s website that reads:
Staples is teaming up with global pop music superstar Katy Perry to “Make Roar Happen” by celebrating and supporting teachers during back-to-school season. Staples is building on its long history of supporting teachers, students, and education by donating $1 million to DonorsChoose.org, a charity that has helped fund more than 450,000 classroom projects for teachers. Founded in 2000, DonorsChoose.org is an online charity that makes it easy for anyone to help students in need. Public school teachers from every corner of America post requests, and individuals can give directly to the ones that inspire them. To date, 152,000 public and charter school teachers have used DonorsChoose.org to secure $187 million in books, art supplies, technology, and other resources that their students need to learn.
In the PSA, Katy Perry walks around a concert stage filled with instruments that disappear as she touches them, stating “Imagine going onstage without any guitars, or keyboards, drums, or a microphone, and being expected to ‘Roar.’ Tough, right? It’s the same with our teachers, who are using their own money so students can learn.”
A study by the National School Supply and Equipment Association in 2012 reported that 92% of teachers spend their own personal funds on school supplies for their classroom.
In just two months the campaign has already raised funds for 287 classrooms, giving over 23,000 students the supplies they need to start the school year off right.
Katy Perry and Staples want you to join the cause; every dollar counts!
