(PCM) It’s our guess that someone lost their job over this advertising snafu! Doughnut maker Krispy Kreme has issued an apology after one of its’ franchise stores in the U.K. featured the promotion “KKK Wednesday”.
It turns out that the promotion was an innocent mistake by British employees who did not realized the association of the promotion with the KKK hate group here in The States. The KKK was supposed to represent “Krispy Kreme Klub” where customers could come into the store as members of the club to decorate doughnuts.
Krispy Kreme issued the following statement:
“We do believe this was a completely unintentional oversight on the part of our longtime franchise partners in the U.K. We are truly sorry for any inconvenience or offense this misstep may have caused our fans.”
The statement also promised that the store will take better precautions with their advertising materials in the future. All mentions of the promotion on the store/companies website and Facebook page have been removed, as well as, all promotional artwork in the store as well.
