Sunscreen is suppose to protect your skin burns, and in most cases it does. Unfortunately for a Massachusetts man, there are rare exceptions.
Brett Sigworth of Stow, Massachusetts suffered second-degree burns when his sunscreen was set on fire by the grill. He was just grilling on his deck with friends when his body suddenly caught on fire after spraying himself with Banana Boat spray-on aerosol sunscreen. His burns appeared only on the areas where he had sprayed on the lotion. “I’ve never experienced pain like that in my life,” he told CBS News.
Banana Boat responded in a statement: “We were concerned to hear about Brett’s experience. At Banana Boat, we take these matters very seriously and will begin a prompt investigation as we continue to strive to deliver products of the highest quality to our consumers.”
Chances are, this won’t happen to you, but why take your chances? Stick to sunscreen lotions, instead. Spray-on sunscreens tend to spray off into the air, and it can be difficult to see where you applied and what areas you missed. Oh yeah, and you definitely won’t catch on fire with your standard sunscreen!
