Say goodbye to those king-size candy bars! Mars Inc, the maker of Snickers, M&Ms and Twix candy bars, is putting a limit of 250 calories on all their products. By the end of next year the company will stop selling all products with more than 250 calories in them, and that clearly means 540-calorie king size bars.
In some cases, this means candy bars will get smaller. However, it could also just mean a packaging change, with king-size portions subdivided into smaller “2toGo” subportions. This works for people who are clueless as to what an appropriate portion size is for a snack. But if you have that extra bar in your possession, are you really going to save it for later?
Regardless, it’s a step in the right direction!
Spokeswoman Marlene Machut said the plan is part of Mars’ “broad-based commitment to health and nutrition,” hoping to bring back responsible snacking. Mars will also reduce sodium levels in all its products 25 percent by 2015.
