(PCM) The fast-food chain known for its Big Macs and McNuggets is taking meat off the menu at two of their newest restaurants in India. That’s right…a vegetarian McDonald’s!
The chain is already beef and pork-free in India, but the new locations – set to open next year – are in religious cities, says Rajesh Kumar Maini, a spokesman for the company’s north and east Indian operations. According to Bloomberg, one of the vegetarian restaurants will be in Amritsar, where the Golden Temple, a holy site for Sikhs, is located. The other will be in Katra in Jammu and Kashmir in the north, which houses one of the main pilgrimage sites for Hindu people.
So what will the vegetarian restaurant serve up in place of its burgers and nuggets?
Aside from the obvious items like veggie burgers and salads, customers can order the McAloo Tikki Burger, a sandwich made with a mashed potato patty, or the Pizza McPuff, a vegetable and cheese pastry.
While it’s unlikely McDonald’s will ever open a full-vegetarian restaurant in the U.S., maybe these locations will have the fast-food chain rethinking their menus, and hopefully add a few more vegetarian options to the menu across the globe!
