There is a big announcement for today, but before we get to that I want to talk to you about your brain. The current course I am taking in order to finish my degree is Physiological Psychology, this is the study of the brain and how it relates to behavior. In today chapter of the text book, it stated that theorists have come up with idea that while our brains were developing there were many times when the body would starve to death and so we developed hunger in order to tell ourselves to eat. The problem was that we didn’t develop anything that would tell us to stop eating, and therefore we have obesity. In other words the brain signals when to start eating but does not signal a halt.
I find that interesting and it explains a couple of things, mainly our attitudes at buffets and Thanksgiving. We just can’t seem to say no. And we make ourselves sick over it.
We are the richest and most blessed country in the world, as this small conversation between Finian and his daughter Sharon from the musical Finian’s Rainbow establishes.
Sharon: Aren’t there any ill clothed or any ill fed in America?
Finian: Yes, but they are the best ill clothed and the best ill fed.
I am not making light of the poor and hungry in the United States, I am however making a point that you and I have it pretty good, and have nothing to complain about. While trying to change my lifestyle the last few weeks, I have been thinking about those who have nothing to eat and nowhere to sleep. Maybe when we are thinking of taking that extra portion of food or grabbing that snack cake off the shelf at our local meg-mart, we can stop and think of those children who have so little, and give the money to a local charity or shelter to help out those less fortunate.
This is not meant as a guilt trip, but a thinking trip. A way to motivate all of us into thinking that we have so much, and giving up the food that will make us physically better, is a small price to pay next to those who have so little or nothing at all.
The Big Announcement! I went to the doctor yesterday afternoon, and got weighed for the first time since I began this adventure and 10 POUNDS are gone. So what we began here, is beginning to work. There is a lot further to go, but this is a great start. For those of you who are following along with me, drop me a line and let me know how you are doing.
I hope you have an incredible awesome Day.
