My Weight Loss Adventure Day 94

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

I find it hard to believe that today is Halloween. Most of the year has rolled by and today is the door opening to the holiday season. After today the stores will be full of Thanksgiving and Christmas as we wind our way through to the New Year. It hardly seems possible that time moves so quickly.

We are all about to be tempted by holiday treats. I have found myself in later years really liking caramel apples and caramel corn. When Thanksgiving comes around the smell of Pumpkin Pie and roasting turkey just makes my stomach rumble in anticipation. Then Christmas, is there ever more of a celebration that centers around food? And not just one day but usually several as we gather with different friends and family and co-workers to celebrate the season. It is an amazing time. And a time of temptation for anyone who is trying to get weight off.

Today as I write this Hurricane Sandy is still moving along making life difficult for many people. There are power outages and floods as well as other mischief that this kind of storm can bring up. I am happy to be home. But the temptation to eat during this time has been unmanageable. I guess when I get upset and high strung I find it impossible to stop putting things in my mouth. The more stress the more I consume. If other people around me are stressed I will eat more as I try to deal with their stress. This is a habit I have got to break. Today.

I am not sure if anyone will go out trick or treating tonight. But it is still a good night to curl up with an old horror movie or book and sip at tea and see if you can bring back the wonder of this holiday. It’s fun to be scared and it’s fun to remember the things we did as kids, as well as the things that frightened us. The houses we used to believe were haunted; the scary trails in the woods and the urban legends we used to scare each other with were fun. This time of year it was easy to believe that ghosts could be roaming the night and the bats flying overhead could indeed turn in to vampires. Of course vampires aren’t all that scary anymore Twilight ruined that, but still back then it was fun.

Whatever you do tonight whatever gives you the chills and thrills of an old Halloween. Make it a good night and if something goes bump in the night…well you never know.
