(PCM) A strange new product called Palcohol or “powdered alcohol” has received federal approval by the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau and consumers will be able to get their hands on it in stores as early as this summer.
If you are curious as to what exactly Palcohol is all about, it is a dried form of alcohol that can be mixed with water to create actual liquid alcohol. The powder is created from either distilled vodka or Puerto Rican rum.
The company has plans to released five flavors of the Palcohol product that include vodka, rum, cosmopolitan, powderita and lemon drop. Each packet of powder will only weigh about 1 once and will equal out to about a shot of liquor. Palcohol’s creator says that he invented the product because of wanting an on the move form of alcohol that was easy to carry.
However is this a good thing?
There are some strong concerns about the level of potential abuse that could occur with this product, as there is fear that people could try to snort it or sneak it into areas where no alcohol is permitted. There is also fear that it would be much easier for children to get their hands on this product as it would be much easier for them to hide and consume quickly.
Many states are already putting together legislature to ban the product before it is even fully launched, so we will have to wait and see if this whole idea actually comes into fruition.
