(PCM) Our crew was recently in town for the Voodoo Music + Arts Experience which took place in New Orleans historic City Park featuring some amazing musical talent and more, but in our down time in the city we were on a search for some of New Orleans best eateries.
Topping this year’s list of the best places to grab a bite while in the Big Easy hands down goes to Willie Mae’s Scotch House located on St. Ann’s Street in the Seventh Ward. It may be a little bit off-the beaten path for most tourists to the city, Willie Mae’s is certainly worth the journey and provided us with some of the best fried chicken we have ever consumed.
Willie Mae’s tops the list of favorites from many of the locals we have talked to and it is so beloved in the area that many residents volunteered to assist with the rebuilding of the establishment after it was devastated by the effects of Hurricane Katrina back in 2005.
The menu doesn’t lie when you can order Willie Mae’s “World’s Best Fried Chicken”, as we are hard pressed to think of any other establishments that even come close to Willie Maes in taste and flavor. The famous recipe for Willie Mae’s fried chicken is a closely guarded secret in the kitchen and the taste and texture of the chicken is just outstanding.
We were also able to sample the mac n’ cheese which contained a delightfully spicy kick, melt-in-your mouth homemade corn bread, and the restaurants simply delicious red beans and rice. Wash it all down with a few sips of sweet tea and it makes for the perfect New Orleans comfort-food meal.
If you are visiting the New Orleans area, Willie Mae’s Scotch House is definitely worth the trip and will also not empty your wallet in the process. The restaurant is only open till about 5pm daily, so be sure to get there early, as often times the line to get in can be quite long. It is definitely a delectable choice and one you will not soon forget!
