Project Semicolon is a faith-based non-profit movement that hopes to promote love and hope to individuals who are suffering from depression, suicide, addiction, and self-injury. The movement was founded by a woman named Amy Bleul, as a tribute to her late father who tragically decided to end his own life.
The semicolon was chosen at the symbol for the movement because of it’s literal definition. A semicolon is used when an author could’ve chosen to end their sentence, but chose not to. The author is you and the sentence is your life, at least in regards to the symbolic tattoo.
While the initial Project Semicolon movement was faith-based they stress that those who wish to participate are free to be any religious denomination and people of any faith or belief system are welcome. The overall message is to spread hope and love to anyone who may need it!
