(PCM) A Texas teenager could be looking at a sentence of life in prison after allegedly making and selling hash brownies. The reason that the sentence could be so harsh is solely based upon the ingredients that he used in the creation of brownies.
19-year old Jacob Lavoro was charged with a first-degree felony because he chose to use hash oil rather than marijuana. The state law in Texas allows prosecutors to use the entire weight of the brownies, meaning all of their ingredients, to determine the amount of drugs they contain. The batch of Lovoro’s brownies weighed about 1.5 pounds.
He is facing sentencing that could be between five years and life in prison if convicted. Many people are coming forward in defense of Lavoro claiming that the sentence seems to be a bit harsh and many have never witnessed a case such as this one.
Basically the prosecutors are saying that 1.5 pounds of hash brownies should carry the same punishment as sexual assault or murder. Lavoro’s lawyer finds the charges to be outrageous against his client and claims Lavoro should really only be charged with a misdemeanor?
What do you think? Are the charges against Lavoro too harsh?
