(PCM) Don’t you hate it when people say ‘It’s all in your head?’ Well, unfortunately, when it comes to exercise and actually doing it, that annoying little phrase just might have some truth behind it!
If you’ve had trouble sticking to an exercise plan in the past, it could be that you need to tap into that brain of yours. A study in the Annals of Behavioral Medicine suggests that while greater access to treadmills increased participants’ odds of exercising by 24 percent, those who believed in their ability to succeed increased their chances by 139 percent!
Believing in yourself and envisioning the end results seem to be a key component to success, especially when it comes to losing weight and getting healthy. Instead of thinking about how tired you are or how you’ll never be as thin as you were years ago, think about how great exercising makes you feel, and how strong you’re going to be. Don’t beat yourself up if you miss a workout or cheat on your diet; it really is okay, and sometimes it even helps fire up your metabolism again.
Think about the big picture, but set small, specific goals to get there: they are easier to envision and stick to!
