If you want to get rid of belly fat, you’re not going to get there by performing countless amounts of crunches and sit-ups! Unfortunately, it’s not possible to spot reduce any area of the body; you can only strengthen the muscles of the area. And if your abs are covered with a layer of fat, well, you’re not going to see your efforts in the form of washboard abs!
The only real way to lose belly fat is by reducing overall body fat through a slight caloric deficit (consume less calories than you burn), adding cardiovascular exercise to burn more calories, and finally, resistance exercise to build muscle, which will boost the metabolism and burn more calories at rest.
Crunches simply don’t burn enough calories to make them effective for fat loss. But if you’ve been performing lots of them, chances are, there are some strong muscles under there just waiting to be seen! So watch your diet and start adding resistance training and extra cardio to your exercise routine, and pretty soon you’ll be able to see what you know is in there!
