Curb Hunger, Cut Calories With H2O

If you’re not getting your eight glasses of water a day, what are you waiting for? Water is necessary for your body to function properly and effectively (our bodies are made up of 60-75% water!); it helps flush out toxins, regulates body temperature, carries nutrients and oxygen to cells, and aids in digestion and absorption of food.

Among the essential functions of water in our bodies, it also helps rev up the metabolism, curb appetite and keep you full longer. So, if you’re having trouble losing weight, maybe it’s time to increase your water intake.

Try drinking two 8-ounce glasses of water before each meal. It will fill up your stomach and help prevent you from overeating. Some studies suggest you can trim up to 100 calories per meal this way.

Fruits and vegetables also contain water, which not only counts toward your daily requirements of H2O, it also helps work towards keeping your stomach full and satisfied – at least for a little while! Green and orange vegetables contain about 90% water, which fills your stomach and makes your brain register fullness, according to Health. Start your meals off with a small salad, full of celery, carrots, and peppers, and snack on fruits and vegetables between meals.

Is eight glasses the magic number? Not necessarily. Your water requirements vary based on your activity level, age, weight, and gender. Eight glasses, or 64 ounces, is a good rule of thumb, but for a more accurate calculation, check out this online calculator.
