(PCM) Losing weight doesn’t have to be hard; it’s the little things that make a difference. Making simple changes to your everyday life – like taking the stairs, exercising during commercial breaks, and even how you slice your sandwich – can all add up to equal big weight loss. Yes, that’s right: how you slice your sandwich can help you lose weight!
According to a recent Arizona State University study, cutting certain foods into pieces – like a sandwich – can help you feel more full and satisfied, causing you to eat less overall.
Students were given either a whole bagel with cream cheese, or one that was precut into four pieces. Those who received a quartered bagel ate less of it, and even ate less food served at an all-you-can-eat buffet 20 minutes later.
“The whole idea is to trick your mind to think you’re eating a lot from a plate,” says graduate student and study author Devina Wadhera. “When food is cut into pieces, it looks like there’s more of it, so our eyes trick our stomach into thinking we are eating a lot more than we actually are.”
Cutting your food into smaller bite-size pieces will also help you eat slower and more mindfully, perhaps not just aiding in digestion, but enjoyment as well!
